PRODUCT DETAILS

Stamping Dies

1. Introduction:

Stamping dies are a type of sheet metal forming tool widely used in the mass production of complex metal parts. The stamping process utilizes the force of a press acting on the die to cut, form, punch holes, or blank details from sheet metal. Stamping dies play a crucial role in creating metal products with high precision, high productivity, and low production costs.

2. Features and Advantages:

  • Specialized Design: Dies are precisely designed and manufactured according to the required shape and dimensions of the product, ensuring accuracy and consistency of the parts.

  • High-Quality Materials: Dies are typically made from special tool steels such as high wear-resistant alloy steel (SKD11, D2, Cr12MoV), high-speed steel (M2), or high carbon steel, ensuring durability, lifespan, and good load-bearing capacity during stamping.

  • High Machining Accuracy: Advanced machining technologies such as CNC machining, EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining), and precision grinding are used to create die components with tight tolerances, ensuring the quality of the final product.

  • High Productivity: Stamping dies allow for the mass production of metal parts at high speeds, reducing production time and labor costs per unit.

  • Flexibility in Processing: A single stamping die can perform multiple operations such as cutting, punching, bending, drawing, and embossing, depending on the die's design and construction.

  • Reduced Scrap: Optimized die design helps maximize the utilization of sheet metal, minimizing the amount of scrap generated during the production process.

  • Wide Range of Applications: Stamping dies are used in various industries such as automotive, electronics, household appliances, construction, and many others.

3. Common Types of Stamping Dies:

  • Single Die: Performs a single operation in each stamping stroke (e.g., only cutting, only punching, or only bending). Often used for simple parts or small production volumes.

  • Progressive Die: Performs multiple different operations (cutting, punching, bending, etc.) sequentially in the same stamping stroke as the material strip moves through different stations of the die. This type of die is suitable for mass production of complex parts.

  • Compound Die: Performs two or more operations at the same station in each stamping stroke (e.g., both cutting and punching). Often used to ensure high positional accuracy between machined features.

  • Bending Die: Designed to bend sheet metal into various required shapes.

  • Drawing Die: Used to form cup-shaped or box-shaped parts from sheet metal through the deep drawing process.

  • Embossing Die: Creates raised patterns or letters on the surface of sheet metal.

4. Die Manufacturing Process:

The manufacturing process of stamping dies typically includes the following steps:

  1. Product Requirement Analysis: Studying the product's technical drawings, determining shape, dimensions, tolerances, and production volume.

  2. Die Design: Using CAD/CAM software to design detailed 2D and 3D die models, including components such as punches, dies, retainer plates, stripper plates, and guiding systems.

  3. Die Material Selection: Choosing the appropriate tool steel based on requirements for durability, hardness, wear resistance, and cost.

  4. Machining Die Components: Using precision machining equipment such as CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, wire EDM machines, and sinker EDM machines to create the die components according to the design drawings.

  5. Heat Treatment: Performing heat treatment (hardening and tempering) to increase the hardness and strength of the main load-bearing components of the die, such as punches and dies.

  6. Die Assembly: Assembling the machined components into a complete die set, ensuring accurate coordination between parts.

  7. Die Trial Run: Installing the die on a stamping press and conducting a trial run to check functionality, accuracy, and product quality. Making necessary adjustments to ensure the die operates stably and produces parts that meet requirements.

  8. Die Finishing: Polishing the working surfaces of the die to improve the surface quality of the product and extend the die's lifespan.

5. Applications:

Stamping dies are widely used in various industries, including:

  • Automotive Industry: Manufacturing body panels, chassis components, and engine parts.

  • Electronics Industry: Manufacturing equipment housings, metal frames, and conductive components.

  • Household Appliances Industry: Manufacturing housings for washing machines, refrigerators, microwave ovens, and metal kitchen utensils.

  • Construction Industry: Manufacturing various types of clips, hinges, and metal accessories.

  • Aerospace Industry: Manufacturing metal parts for aircraft and spacecraft.

  • Furniture Manufacturing Industry: Manufacturing metal parts for tables, chairs, and shelves.

  • Toy Manufacturing Industry: Manufacturing metal parts for toys.

Stamping dies are an efficient and economical metalworking technology for mass-producing metal parts. With the continuous development of die design and manufacturing technology, stamping dies are becoming increasingly complex and versatile, meeting the stringent requirements of modern industry. Selecting and using high-quality stamping dies is a crucial factor in ensuring productivity, product quality, and the competitiveness of enterprises.
